Classes of fire

To effectively attack a fire, there must be the most appropriate extinguishing agent to the nature of fire.

One distinguishes 4classe of fires (A, B, C, D):


    
Class A:
Solid fires: Wood, Paper, Cartoon, fabrics
extinguishing agent in this class: Water + additive Foam Multi-purpose powders or ABC


    
Class B:
Fires of liquid / solid liquefiable Hydrocarbons, oils, alcohols, paints, plastics ...
extinguishing agent in this class: Carbon dioxide (C02), Water + additive, BC powder, Foam Multi-purpose powders or ABC


    
Class C:

  
Lights Gas: Butane, propane, methane
extinguishing agent in this class: BC powder ABC or Multi-purpose powders


    
Class D:

  
Fires of metals: magnesium, sodium, aluminum ...
Fire extinguisher agent of this class: Extinction for specialists with suitable equipment (special powder, dry sand ..)


NB: The origins of electrical fires are part of any class fires. Nevertheless, the most appropriate extinguisher for this type of fire extinguisher carbon dioxide (C02).
